Hello and welcome to my Student Motivation Blog. My name is JD [JIDEOFO OBIANYIDO] and I am a student Coach/ Motivator. All I ask is that you read the whole article and watch the clip at the end and then make a decision today - right now.
Just as a sports coach guides and motivates sports people, I do the same with students. In fact I am more of a motivational coach. Most people do not know what they are capable of doing till they are forced to do it. Sadly many people will never be forced to do anything in their life and as a result will never do anything amazing. That is where I differ from other coaches. A career development coach helps you get from where you are now [current situation/job] to where you want to be [promotion/more desirable job] quicker than you would have done it on your own. I push you there. I force you there – one way or the other. Everybody needs a push sometimes to do things and that is exactly what I do. I have a no-excuse, a do or die approach. Most students give excuses. With me there are no excuses. We do whatever it takes to get the assignment done, whatever it takes to meet the deadline, whatever it takes to finish the project, whatever it takes to apply for that job, whatever it takes to understand a topic, whatever it takes to finish reading a book, whatever it takes to do what has to be done. On your own, you will never push yourself to the limit – let me do it for you. How else are you going to get the top grades? How else are you going to compete with thousands of other students out there? How else are you going to study throughout this weekend without going out? How else are you going to be the very best you can be? How else are you going to get that top Job? I create a time table for you and you stick to it no matter what. It is hard work but don’t quit on me now!! You are a winner not a quitter – it is just that you don’t know yet. You have never surprised yourself before.
I started off in this coaching business initially as a Private A-Level Mathematics Tutor. Unlucky for me, majority of my students didn’t actually come to me for help with their studies, they actually wanted me to do their work for them. As they were paying me, I did what they wanted. I realised that 2 – 3 hours a week private tuition was not actually what they needed but a total mental revolution, a total change in their attitude towards Education, a serious confidence boost. I gave up tutoring altogether because I felt my students didn’t stand a chance in the real world and in most cases I was right. It was after giving up and feeling like a failure that it occurred to me to try it again – but differently. This time, I did not want to deal with just Mathematics students but ALL STUDENTS. As I pondered what to do next, it occurred to me that I needed to inspire them as well as teach. Just like that – like a miracle – I became a Student Motivator and will never look back. My book “EDUCATION - A Message For Young and Ambitious Students” is out this summer [Reserve your copies now!!] and my message is on its way to every College and University in London.
Apart from the fact that I am available to you as a student coach, there is a more serious need for every student to consider getting a coach. Another thing I noticed was that even though the world we are living is changing and changing fast, the average student attitude remained the same. They believed they would secure that dream job after graduation. There was no real change in attitude to acknowledge this change. It is just like when I was a student – do what you can and see what happens. That is even though we are in the middle of the worst economic recession since the 1930’s. That is even though we are going through one of the worst times to be a student in terms of graduate finances and employment. That is even though student numbers in the UK [European and International] are increasing year on year. That is even though government funding for higher education was cut in 2009. That is even though tuition fees are increasing year on year. That is even though student debt is rising year on year. In other words it is 100% more difficult than it was 10 – 15 years ago when I was a student to get a graduate Job. Students need to raise their game to be able to compete in this new world. It is not business as usual. You cannot afford to take it easy. If you decide to go to University then you need to work harder, you need to work smarter, you need to be confident to compete, you need something. You need a coach.
This clips shows exactly what a coach can do for you. Believe me, you need to be prepared to do the same if you want to be the best. If not you are not serious - Enjoy....
